And then I finally figured it out...
This was an odd painting... but it accomplished more or less what I wanted it to do.
Funny how that works...

Lost in the Paint... a painter's blog
Nature is the Genius... the painter is a mere clumsy messenger, trying in vain to copy down Nature's poetry. It rarely gets copied down right... but even what little one manages can be enough.
